The barebone ships without switches or keycaps: you get the chassis, the PCB and the electronics, and you build the rest yourself. That's what makes it worth having for anyone who wants to choose their own typing feel rather than accept the one picked at the factory. Budget for a switch set and a keycap set on top, or you won't be typing on it!

The sockets take 5-pin switches with no soldering at all: push in, pull out, change your mind. Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Glorious, almost every brand drops in. A switch puller and a keycap puller are both in the box, so you move the whole board from one profile to another without buying a tool. The sockets are north-facing, worth knowing if you're eyeing Cherry profile keycaps!

On a barebone, acoustics start with the chassis. The GMMK 2 packs thick dampening foam that absorbs vibrations and kills the hollow resonance of an empty case. The clip-on stabilizers come lubed from the factory, so the spacebar and Enter don't rattle, and you can move to GSV2 screw-in stabilizers to go further. The tray mount keeps the case free of creaks!
