Choosing a gaming monitor means considering several factors, including the panel type. There are three main types: VA, IPS, and TN. VA panels are the most versatile with a great price-to-performance ratio, making them very common. IPS panels offer superior image quality with excellent colors, but high refresh rate models are often more expensive. Finally, TN panels are performance-focused, highly appreciated by competitive players for their responsiveness, even if they have more limited color accuracy and viewing angles.

Resolution and size of your gaming monitor

Once you’ve chosen the panel, you need to define the size and resolution of your monitor. The most common sizes are 24, 27, and 32 inches. A 24-inch monitor is ideal for competitive gaming, while 27 inches and above are perfect for greater immersion. Also consider the available space on your desk, especially for your mouse movements. If the stand gets in the way, a monitor mount can be a great alternative.

In terms of resolution, the standards are FHD (1920x1080), WQHD / 2K (2560x1440), and 4K (3840x2160). The higher the resolution, the more detailed the image, but it also requires more power and a higher budget.

Refresh rate and response time

The performance of your monitor largely depends on its refresh rate and response time. The refresh rate refers to the number of frames displayed per second: the higher it is, the smoother the image. Today, most monitors come in 144Hz, 165Hz, 240Hz, or 360Hz.

The response time refers to how quickly information is displayed on screen. The lower it is, the more responsive your monitor will be. These two factors are essential, especially for competitive players looking for maximum precision.
